Plays, variety shows, storytelling, puppet shows, concerts and most other types of performances have been popular in Prospect as long as The Village has existed, many would say. These have brought Prospecters, neighbouring community members and people from away to a small community and created a family of those who enjoy community theatre.
Community theatre offers the audience an opportunity to look beyond their lives, to visit unexpected places, to laugh, to cry, to ponder and to imagine. It offers the participants an opportunity to unleash their artistic spirit in creating a work of art for the enjoyment of others, as well as for themselves. At the end of each production, the cast and crew emerge with a new bank of friends, experiences, memories and desires.
With the production of Cinderfella in 2004, Prospect Players began a more organized run of productions, albeit still informally organized. There are no qualifications for membership; the email list changes with each production. We decided back then that productions should be considered when enough volunteers are available and it could be managed without feeling like a full time job. Above all, it needed to be fun.
If you've never been part of a community theatre production and want to try something new, if you've been away from theatre and want to get back, or if you've been playing for a while, Prospect Players may be for you. Acting, writing, designing, directing, building, painting, etc... there is a place for everyone.
